Scholarship Application Available for Mission u

Mission u is an annual event co-sponsored by the West Michigan Conference UMW and the Conference Board of Global Ministries. It is a unique opportunity to gather for a time of spiritual and personal renewal as well as education through mission studies and fellowship with our Christian sisters and brothers, oh and I can’t forget all of the FUN! Because Mission u has the power to be a life transforming experience, the Heartland District UMW Leadership Team makes scholarship money available in the amount of one 4-day Mission u registration each year. You will find the application included in this issue of the DOVE, they must be received by June 1 at the address included on the application. Please note that in order for an applicant to be eligible they must be a first time attendee to the School of Christian Mission and have not attended the School of the North. Mission Today

It’s that time of year again; time to evaluate how successful the local UMW Units of Heartland District have been at educating their members (and their local church) about the work and PURPOSE of United Methodist Women.  How have you expanded your concepts of mission in new and exciting ways this year?  One way to evaluate your success in this area is to use the Mission Today form that is available in this issue of the DOVE.

Your District Team has worked to make the process of evaluating your success in the Mission Today Program as simple as possible and there are a wide variety of ways to meet the criteria.  So, take a few minutes, fill out the enclosed form and return it to the address on the form, by September 1 to receive special recognition at the District Annual Meeting in Greenville in September.  If you have any questions about Mission Today you can contact me by phone at 989-224-2293 or e-mail latimer.amy@gmail.com, and remember you can meet one of the criteria by inviting your Special Friend to share in fellowship with you at one of your meetings!

Heartland District Dove Award

The DOVE Award was established in 1997 by the Heartland District UMW to recognize the service of local unit members.  The DOVE Award is only one of the ways to satisfy the Gift to Mission, one of the Five Channels of Giving.  The criteria for selecting DOVE Award recipients are as follows:

• She is an active member of the United Methodist Women, serving in her church and community.
• She supports mission projects locally and/or globally.
• She expresses her faith through action.
• She supports youth and children through prayer and friendship.

The local unit Treasurer should send a gift of $20 using the form below ($25 if you wish to include a card).  At the District Annual Meeting in September, the person(s) being honored will receive a certificate and pin.  If a card was requested the local unit will receive a card at that time also.  The awards will not be mailed in advance of the meeting

Look around your congregation’s community of faith.  Find those who should be honored with the DOVE Award.  Complete the form to include with your Remittance Form.  Please print legibly. The deadline is August 1, 2013.
